Answer Me This

http://www.catholicallyear.com

Do you have a smart phone?

I do. It's the same one I've had for over 3 years, but I'll probably keep using it until it dies.

Which is your favorite meal of the day?

I'm a fan of breakfast foods, but not a big fan of getting up in the morning, so I don't usually eat big breakfasts unless we're on vacation. But on those rare occasions, I love breakfast. Especially if there's bacon involved.

Shower or bath?

Shower, as hot as I can stand it and as for as long as the hot water lasts. I'd be more into baths if I had one of those big bathtubs with the jets.

Think of a person you love. How many days have you been in love with that person?

It's been 2,304 days since the first date I had with my husband. Not sure that it was love at first sight but it was pretty close.

What's the best church you've ever been inside?

When I was in high school, I took a trip to France with the French Club the summer before my senior year. One day, we went to a small village outside of Nice, called Eze. In that village was a beautiful little Catholic church. I wasn't Catholic yet, but I still appreciated what a great church it was.

I didn't take any pictures of the inside, so I borrowed one from the Internet.

Church of Eze (nave)

It's even more beautiful in person.

I also have to say that our church is beautiful as well.

Again, even more beautiful in person - you can't see the shimmery gold fleurs-de-lis behind the alter.

We saw the Cathedral of Saint Paul on our trip to Minnesota last fall and it wasn't half bad either.

Happy Feast of the Visitation! Has anyone ever come to help YOU?

Once when I was 20,  I had a tire blow out while driving to a town an hour or so away. I couldn't get anybody on the phone, but luckily a trucker stopped and put my spare tire on for me. He was very nice and I didn't feel scared at all with him. I was very thankful he stopped because it would've taken my dad longer to get to me and the road really didn't have much of a shoulder to be stopped on.

Week in Review

I hope everybody had an enjoyable holiday weekend (if that applies to you) and if you had to work, I'm sorry. I've been there before!

Even though there are only 2 weeks of school left, work has been very busy. I've been working pretty much every day this month, which is great for our finances going into summer.

Last week was all about kindergarten and 2nd grade. I was very excited to get to teach one of my favorite kindergarten classes one last time. They're a sweet bunch and I'm going to miss them.

The summer job is coming along nicely, I guess. My paperwork is processed and I'll be officially hired next week. My director has never gotten back to me about my placement, so I'm assuming I'm still at last year's park with the older kids. I guess we'll see what happens. I just go with the flow. She also hasn't scheduled our training meetings due to some staffing issues. This wouldn't bother me, but I'm trying to plan a little getaway for our anniversary the same week we'll have training.

This weekend, we mostly focused on getting some things done around the house. Saturday was beautiful, so we headed outside to take care of some yard work. Weeding my flowerbeds isn't the most fun, but enjoying the sunshine did help. All of my flowers are planted and I'm enjoying the blooms. Crossing my fingers that all my plants stay alive this year!

On Monday, my mom and I went to the local flea market. It was hot and crowded, but I got some things I've been waiting to buy there. We had a good day together shopping and catching up.

How was your week?

What is your favorite handbag you own?

It's a tie between my Vera Bradley Glenna and my Vera Bradley Hipster. I love the Glenna for every day stuff and the Hipster is great for vacations and places where I don't carry as much in my purse. I love both these styles so much, I have 2 of each!

3 things you would buy right now if money was no object?

1. A cruise to Alaska
2. A new mattress
3. A DSLR camera

Name a place you would go right now if given a plane ticket to anywhere?

London or Disney World

What is the most valuable life lesson you've learned from blogging?

Just do what makes you happy.

What is the most valuable life lesson you've learned from a friend?

Be positive and work hard. And don't forget to have fun! Also, cake is always a good idea.

Beach or Mountains? Where would you rather be?

Beach, all the way. Even though I only went a few times when I lived in Florida, I really miss living near the beach.

Which is more fun: Christmas Eve, or Christmas morning?

That's a tough choice! We do Christmas Eve with my husband's family and then go to Midnight Mass, which I love. Christmas morning is spent at our house and I think will be more exciting when we have kids. Then, we go to my mom's house to spend the day with my family. They're both fun. I really just love Christmas!

What’s the most embarrassing childhood outfit you remember wearing?

I don't remember ever being embarrassed by my childhood outfits, but of course looking back, I shake my head. The short overalls that I was fond of in junior high, were not the greatest choice probably.

Your house is quiet, you don’t have to do work (housework included). What do you do?

Relax on the couch with some Netflix and the internet.

What movie do you want to watch when you’re feeling under the weather?

Disney movies are always a good choice. I like watching Tangled.

Did you have an American Girl doll when you were little? If so, which one?

I did. I had Molly. I still have her packed away somewhere and I plan to give her to my daughter if I ever have one.

Sunday Social - Summer

What is your best summer memory as a kid?

The fair! Our county fair is awesome and I frequently spent most of the week out there when I was a kid/teen. I loved being able to explore everything over the week and of course, eat a bunch of awesome fair food! I still love going to the fair now even though I can usually only go once during the week.

What is your favorite summer drink?

Lemonade! Especially the lemonade from Chick-fil-a. I'm going to have to stock up on lemons this year and make my own.

What is your favorite summer TV show?

We only watch a few shows during the regular season and during the summer we don't watch any shows. We love having Netflix Instant Watch and borrowing DVDs from the library.

What is the best outdoor summer activity?

I don't do hot weather very well, so I try to spend as much of the summer as possible inside. However, my summer job at the day camp has other ideas. I'm sure I'll be playing lots of dodgeball again this summer.

If I have to be outside in the heat, I like to be at the county fair or the local flea market or visiting a zoo.

What are your summer vacation essentials?

A Vera Bradley Hipster, my camera, books to read, sunglasses, and sunscreen!

Answer Me This

I know, I know. I've been a terrible blogger lately. I really am going to try on doing some actual posts sometime in the near future. However, that usually requires me to have a life and do interesting things. Right now, my life is work all day and come home and crash. These longer days are getting to everyone. But the good news is that there's only 12 days of school left.

I recently found a new link up called Answer Me This thanks to a new-to-me blog, Catholic All Year. (I know, another link up answering questions, but please bear with me as I attempt to get any new content up on the blog.)

http://carrotsformichaelmas.com/2014/05/17/answer-me-this-kendras-in-france-so-i-ask-all-the-questions/

What's the scariest thing that's ever been in your yard?

A squirrel that I genuinely thought was going to climb up my leg and attack me. I was filling the bird feeder on our back steps and this squirrel was not shy about getting close to me. I'm not usually scared of squirrels, but he was way too close for comfort! I ended up shouting at him and throwing birdseed, but he still didn't leave. I had to go inside the house for while and wait for him to go away. Funnily enough, he's never approached me again even when I fill the bird feeders.

Beards. Thumbs up or thumbs down?

It depends on the guy. On my husband? Thumbs down. On my father? Thumbs up. He had a beard my entire life and then he shaved it one day and he looks like a totally different person. It's very weird to see my father without his beard.

If stuff breaks, can you fix it?

Depends on what it is. I can fix minor things, but no way could I fix a car problem or plumbing.

What was your first car?

A Mercury Sable from the 90's. It was pretty basic, but it worked well. (It had been owned by a little old lady that didn't go anywhere.)  I only had it for a year or so and I sold it to my brother because he needed a car and I bought a Taurus that I loved.

How often do you eat out?

More than we really should, probably. We try to keep it to only once or twice a month, ideally. That doesn't always work out, but we really try to limit it to once a week in those cases. We gave up eating out for Lent this year and I was surprised at how hard it was to keep that sacrifice. It really opened my eyes to how often we take the easy way out instead of making food at home.

Why is your hair like that?

Because I'm growing it out again and my hair grows slowly and weirdly. The back grows faster than the front, so I end up with mini mullets right before my next haircut. Right now, it's at the awkward length where it won't do anything and I've given up fighting it. Hopefully this summer, I can just pull it back for camp and be done with it.

Sunday Social - Old School TV

What was your favorite TGIF show?

My favorites were Full House and Dinosaurs.

What was your favorite Saturday morning TV show?

I remember being a fan of California Dreams.

Mickey Mouse Club or Kids Incorporated?

I didn't watch either of them. (I grew up without cable!)

Zack Morris or AC Slater?

Zack

Which show would you love to see remade? (For example, Boy Meets World is back as Girl Meets World)

Remakes are never as good as the original. I'll stick with reruns of Boy Meets World and watching Dinosaurs on Netflix.

Sunday Social

Who do you call when you need to vent?

My husband or my mom.

Where do you go when you need alone time?

The bedroom or my office.

What is your favorite alone time activity?

Reading or watching Netflix or movies.

What is something we should all stop and read right now?

Anything! As a teacher, I try to develop a love of reading in all my students. I grew up devouring books and I still do. I'm always amazed at the adults I meet that proudly proclaim that they don't like to read.

Who do you wish would read your blog that doesn't already? Family? Celeb?

I'm pretty happy that anybody reads my blog, but it'd be nice if Jennifer Lawrence and the Duchess of Cambridge read it and realized that we're supposed to be best friends.
