Sunday Social - TV

Sunday Social

What was your favorite TV show as a kid?

I'm told that I highly enjoyed Punky Brewster as a kid. I actually have no memory of this, but I trust my mom knows what she's talking about.

I do remember watching The Cosby Show with my family. And various Saturday morning cartoons including the New Kids on the Block cartoon and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (I had younger brothers.)

As tween/teen, I loved Saved by the Bell, California Dreams, and Hang Time. Saturday nights, we stayed over at my grandparents' house and they had cable, so I could watch Clarissa Explains It All and Roundhouse.

What is your current favorite TV show?

 Doctor Who & Sherlock!

Which reality show would you NEVER do?

Survivor - Anything that involves a lack of indoor plumbing is just not happening.

Which reality show would you LOVE to do?

The Amazing Race! My friend Trish and I actually really wanted to audition and make it on the show together. We even planned some things out like how she would learn to drive stick shift and I would be the navigator.

Sadly, we're both at a point where going on the show wouldn't be feasible. The closest I've come to being on the Amazing Race is running through the Cincinnati airport on our honeymoon.

What is the TV personality/character that you feel is most like you?

Hmm, I can think of characters I'd like to be, but I can't think of any that are like me.

Which TV character would you want to date?

Sherlock, despite the fact that I know he doesn't understand love as a human emotion and he's a highly functioning sociopath (even though he's not really.)

Brainy is the new sexy, after all.

Sherlock - Favorite Actress

Today's Sherlock topic is favorite actress.

There aren't many actresses on Sherlock, but while the choices are slim, I still have a hard time picking a favorite. So, I'm going to say it's a tie between Louise Brealey and Una Stubbs.

Louise plays Molly Hooper and she does it brilliantly. I can't help but feel for poor Molly who loves Sherlock, but is often overlooked by him. Feels a little familiar, you know?

Una Stubbs plays Mrs. Hudson, the landlord of 221b. I adore Mrs. Hundson. She's just the right combination of motherly and bossy. She always manages to infuse some humor into her scenes as well. And I love the relationship she clearly has with Sherlock. I'd love to know more about that back story!

Sherlock - Favorite Actor

Today's Sherlock topic is favorite actor.

I don't think it will come as a surprise to anyone when I say this man right here is my favorite actor.

Benedict Cumberbatch is not only my favorite Sherlock actor, he's also my favorite actor, period. He absolutely makes the character of Sherlock. I simply cannot imagine anybody else doing nearly as good as a job as Sherlock.

Sherlock - Favorite Video

Ooops! Work has me so messed up and stressed that I totally blanked on today's Sherlock post. Lucky for me, I have 11 minutes to get it done and still be on time!

Today's Sherlock topic is favorite YouTube video. I'm really not much of a fan of fan made videos, so most of what I like on YouTube is clips of favorite moments. In fact, this video is the only Sherlock related video I have favorited on YouTube.

I love these trailers for the various Sherlock episodes even if they are made by fans and not official. They're a great way to preview episodes. And of course, given my love of Irene and Sherlock, I love this one the most.

Sherlock - Favorite Website

Today's Sherlock topic is favorite Sherlock related website.

This one is super easy for me. There is one website that I love above all others. Sherlockology! I love that they do monthly wallpapers and I work hard to solve the anagram to get it every month because I enjoy using them on my laptop.

What I really love about Sherlockology, is their Tumblr. It's a great way to get news and info not only about just Sherlock, but other Sherlock Holmes related info as well as info about the cast's other projects. And they're great about not posting spoilers, which I really appreciate. I'm trying very hard not to be spoiled for the big cliffhanger from season 2.

Do you have a favorite Sherlock related website?

Sherlock - Favorite GIF

Today's Sherlock topic is favorite gif. I've actually liked and reblogged quite a few Sherlock gifs over on my Tumblr. But, I did manage to narrow it down to my favorite.

My favorite part is Sherlock's face when he says "Greg?!" And of course, it's hilarious that the genius detective didn't know that Lestrade's first name is Greg.

Sherlock - Canon

Today's Sherlock topic is favorite canon reference/joke.

Even though Sherlock is a modern adaptation, Steven Moffat & Mark Gatiss do a great job of including a lot of canon. I really love the way they sneak little details in throughout the episodes.

My favorite one is this one...

Vatican cameos!

In the canon, Vatican cameos is a case mentioned in passing by Sherlock Holmes in Hound of the Baskervilles. Doyle never wrote a story about it. I love the way Moffat and Gatiss snuck it in there!

Sherlock - Character Most Like Me

Today's Sherlock topic is the character that is most like me.

Honestly, this was really hard for me because I don't really think any of the characters are like me. But, I thought about it and decided Molly is probably most like me.

I'm awkward in social situations and secretly in love with Sherlock too. Plus, I'd do whatever I could to help him as well.

I also covet that cute cardigan she's wearing. It has cherries on it!

Sherlock - Cry

Today's Sherlock topic is a moment that made you cry.

I don't think I actually cried when this happened, but it was the closest I've come to crying during an episode of Sherlock and watching it again definitely makes me sad.

I really cannot wait for this show to come back.

Sherlock - Squeal!

Today's Sherlock topic is a moment that made you squeal.

Well, I frequently do little squeals and sighs when watching anything involving Benedict Cumberbatch. Especially when it's the first episode of a new series of Sherlock and Sherlock appears for the first time. However, I did remember one specific scene that definitely called for both squealing and sighing.

Shirtless Sherlock is always a treat!

Sherlock - New Season

Today's Sherlock topic is something I'd like to see in the new season (or series as the Brits say.)

Easy!

When Sherlock returns and reveals to John that he's not really dead, I'd like John to punch him in the face and then maybe do a little more punching. Sherlock deserves it. Especially if they stick to canon and it's been three years.

I know in the original story, John faints, but I think this modern John Watson is made of sterner stuff and won't faint. I'd like to see him channel a little rage at Sherlock.

What do you want to see in the new season?

Sherlock - Least Favorite Character

Today's Sherlock topic is a picture of your least favorite character.

This was an easy topic for me because I definitely have a character I strongly dislike.

I absolutely cannot stand Sally because the way she treats Sherlock. Especially what happened in the last episode. I don't think I've every been so angry with a fictional character before.

Sherlock - Favorite Character

Today's Sherlock topic is a photo of my favorite character.

I decided to go with a new picture from season three filming. Don't worry, no spoilers!

It's no secret my favorite character is Sherlock.

I love those cheekbones! And do I spy a certain purple shirt?

Sherlock - Sad Photo

Today's Sherlock topic is a photo that makes you sad.

The first thing that came to mind was The Reichenbach Fall. It was a very good episode, but I cannot bring myself to watch it again due to the end.

So, it should come as no surprise that I chose a photo from the end of that episode. I actually chose two photos because they both make me sad for different reasons.

I cannot wait for season three to see how they resolve this cliffhanger!

Sherlock - A Picture That Make Me Smile

Today's Sherlock topic is simply, a picture that makes you smile.

It's not hard to find a picture that makes me smile since Benedict Cumberbatch frequently makes me smile and giggle like a schoolgirl. It is hard however to narrow it down to just one.

However, I am going to go with a gif that makes me smile because Benedict, and therefore, Sherlock's smile is just fabulous.

 Sigh.

Sherlock - Favorite Ship

Today's Sherlock topic is favorite ship. I'm not usually a big shipper, but I totally love Sherlock and Irene together.

I like the way they try to outsmart each other and their chemistry was pretty good too. This scene in particular was exceptional in my book.

I love that Irene is not intimidated by Sherlock I like that she's brave and bold. And of course, I love that she "beats" Sherlock even if only for a little while. If I had to be a character on Sherlock, I'd want to be Irene.

Sherlock: Favorite Quote

Today's Sherlock topic is favorite quote. I love this show so much, it is impossible for me to pick just one quote, so I'll share some of my favorites. Really you just need to watch the show if you haven't!

This whole scene is amazing.

I also love "Brainy is the new sexy," said by Irene Adler and pretty much everything Moriarty says.

Sherlock: Favorite Minor Character

This week's Sherlock topic is favorite minor character. There is much debate over who is considered a main character and who is a minor character. But since I only consider Sherlock, Watson, and Moriarty to be main characters, I have lots of minor characters to choose from.

But ultimately, I had to go with this guy...

Detective Inspector Greg Lestrade

I like Lestrade because he's funny, he's Sherlock's friend even if Sherlock doesn't think so, and he believes in Sherlock Holmes. He puts up with a lot of crap from Sherlock, but he does it with patience (most of the time) because he needs Sherlock.

Plus, he's played by Rupert Graves and everybody knows that Rupert Graves is good at football and has five kids.

Sherlock - Favorite Main Character

Today's Sherlock topic is favorite main character. If you are a regular reader of my blog, it should probably come as no surprise that my favorite main character is Sherlock himself.

He is after all, played by my favorite actor in the whole world, Benedict Cumberbatch, who I've gushed about before on this blog. I'm a sucker for those cheekbones, the curls, the smile, and of course, that voice.

But the show isn't about Benedict, it's about Sherlock. I like Sherlock's straight-forward attitude and his general lack of social normities. He does what he needs to to solve a case and doesn't much care if anybody's feelings get hurt or he oversteps boundaries. One of my favorite things is when he just looks at somebody and can tell you everything about them without asking a single question.

I love his friendship with John and the special relationship he has with Mrs. Hudson. I even enjoy watching his interactions with Mycroft and Moriarty. I like the way he insults people because he has no idea how to humble and I love the way that he's not perfect. He has many faults and they are very often on display, but they are what make this genius just a little more human.

I'll end with one of my favorite scenes that doesn't give too much away. (Keep in mind, in the UK, pants = underwear. So much funnier when you know that bit!)

And that scene leads to this bit of awesomeness later:
