Sunday Social - Movies

Sunday Social

What is your favorite movie of all time?

Oh man, I could never pick just one! I love a variety of movies and it just depends on what I'm in the mood for.
My go-to favorites are:

Pride & Prejudice!

The Princess Bride
Pirates of the Caribbean
Tangled

What is your favorite movie quote?

Again, I could never pick just one. See those movies I picked in question #1? They all have really great lines that I love.

What is the best movie to watch for a girls night in?

When I was in college, we watched Dirty Dancing and Bring It On a lot.

What is the best breakup movie?

I'm going to go with Legally Blonde or French Kiss.

Who would you want to play you in a movie about your life?

Jennifer Lawrence

Not that I think she looks like me, but I just love her and she'd be great at doing all the scenes where I do something awkward. Which would be like 95% of the movie.

See? We're practically the same person!

Which movie star's closet would you want to raid?

Kristin Davis - She wears a lot of dresses that I wouldn't mind finding in my closet.

Sherlock - Favorite Video

Ooops! Work has me so messed up and stressed that I totally blanked on today's Sherlock post. Lucky for me, I have 11 minutes to get it done and still be on time!

Today's Sherlock topic is favorite YouTube video. I'm really not much of a fan of fan made videos, so most of what I like on YouTube is clips of favorite moments. In fact, this video is the only Sherlock related video I have favorited on YouTube.

I love these trailers for the various Sherlock episodes even if they are made by fans and not official. They're a great way to preview episodes. And of course, given my love of Irene and Sherlock, I love this one the most.

Week In Review

I'm late posting my week in review this week because frankly, last week wasn't great.

The big highlight of my week was starting my new summer job. Camp started on Monday and I was excited to meet my campers and have lots of fun playing games and doing arts and crafts.

We had been told to expect about 30 kids at our park. We got 7.

OK, we'll get more as the week goes on. People will hear about day camp and sign up. Nope.

We took the kids into the neighborhood around the park and passed out flyers. Nothing.

In fact, we even lost 2 kids to another park because the little girl was the only one, so she and her brother transferred.

The good part is that our kids are fun and we do a lot of fun things. The bad part is if we don't get more kids, we're going to have to shut down our site and the kids will have to go to a different park. The worst part is since attendance is lower than expected at all the parks, we're overstaffed and there may not be a job for me if we shut down our park.

So while I spent my week doing crafts and playing a ton of dodgeball, I was also worrying about my job. I really love this job. The pay isn't great, but I'm having fun. I really don't want to lose my job. We should know something by the end of the week. I'm crossing my fingers it's good news.

 How was your week?

Sunday Social - Fashion and Style

Sunday Social

What is your favorite store to shop at?

My favorite stores are Target, Ikea, and HomeGoods, but since this Sunday Social is about fashion, I don't think they count. I only occasionally buy clothes for myself at Target. Most of my clothes come from Kohl's and Old Navy.

If you could afford anything and everything, which designer brand would you covet?

Pretty much any designer that the Duchess of Cambridge wears. I've loved every thing Alexander McQueen has designed for her, so if I had to pick one, I'd go with that one.

What is your must have closet staple?

Camis - I have lots in every color and wear them a lot because I like to layer. And cardigans for the winter. I love a cute cardigan.

See? Argyle cardigan and a cami. So me that I wore them in our engagement pictures.

What is your favorite kind of shoes? (brand or type)

I love flip flops, but they aren't exactly useful in the winter in the Midwest. Most of my shoes are actually Skechers.

What is the best clothing deal you've ever gotten? (sale or amazing find)

Back when I worked retail, I got lot of great deals on clothes. Mostly because I helped mark the clearance, so I'd get first pick of it. Once I got some cashmere sweaters that were originally $90 for less than $10. And I once got a pair of New Balance sneakers for $3 because they were found in the stockroom a long time after they'd gone clearance. Sadly, I've never worn them and so they're a bit tight to wear.

What is a style you'd love to try?

I love vintage dresses, so I'd love to wear them all the time. I even have a Pinterest board dedicated to them.

Sherlock - Favorite Website

Today's Sherlock topic is favorite Sherlock related website.

This one is super easy for me. There is one website that I love above all others. Sherlockology! I love that they do monthly wallpapers and I work hard to solve the anagram to get it every month because I enjoy using them on my laptop.

What I really love about Sherlockology, is their Tumblr. It's a great way to get news and info not only about just Sherlock, but other Sherlock Holmes related info as well as info about the cast's other projects. And they're great about not posting spoilers, which I really appreciate. I'm trying very hard not to be spoiled for the big cliffhanger from season 2.

Do you have a favorite Sherlock related website?

Week in Review

The highlight of last week was that I finally started my summer job!

I had training on Wednesday and it was the first time I met my coworkers. I haven't said much about my job because prior to the training, I really didn't know much about it. I am working as a day camp leader for the city's park and recreation department. Yes, I get to work for a Parks & Rec department in Indiana. Sadly, Ron Swanson does not work here.

Anyway, we had training on Wednesday, which I knew about and also on Thursday, which I did not find out about until Wednesday. Thanks for the advanced notice! Fortunately, I did not have plans. I met my coworkers, we made some vague plans, and i feel unprepared, but we'll see what happens! First day of camp is today.

Wednesday was also our 3rd wedding anniversary. We celebrated with pizza from our rehearsal dinner restaurant (our wedding was catered by a catering company that doesn't have a restaurant) and cupcakes. We tried to get cupcakes from our wedding cake baker, but he was already sold out when M got there in the afternoon. Instead we had cupcakes from the grocery store.

Friday, I had to go bathing suit shopping. Not my idea of fun, but on Thursday I was informed that when we take our campers to the city pool, we have to wear swimsuits too even if we don't plan on getting in the water. It's just in case we have to get in for any reason. I own swimsuits, but I'm not comfortable wearing them in public mostly because I hate my thighs. So a new suit was in order and luckily I found something I'm comfortable in and got it for a great deal.

The weekend was low key. I tried to plan for camp, but since I've never done this before and haven't met the campers yet, I'm flying blind. Crossing my fingers this goes well!

Sunday Social - Pet Peeves

Sunday Social

What is your biggest driving pet peeve?

General inability to use common sense - no turn signals, not going the speed limit or excessive speeding, etc.

What is your biggest blogging pet peeve?

I really hate when people don't link directly to the post in link-ups. If your blog doesn't open to the right post, I'm closing the window and not bothering to read. I also hate when people link up and don't even do the link up post.

Also, word verification drives me nuts. If I actually take the time to leave a comment and then have to fight the word verification I think twice about doing the comment.I know a lot of people say they do it because of spam comments, but I get a lot of hits every day (thanks to Vera Bradley stuff) and I've only ever gotten like 2 spam comments. And since I'm notified when I get new comments, I saw them right away and deleted them. I just like to make it as easy as possible for people to interact with me on the blog.

What is your biggest general pet peeve?

Rudeness - especially poor customer service or people treating retail workers and servers poorly.

What is your most irrational fear?

Bees - I've been stung twice, but I'm afraid that I'll be allergic the next time and my throat will swell up.

Name 3 celebrities you'd want to have dinner with.

Benedict Cumberbatch

The Duchess of Cambridge

 Jennifer Lawrence
I love a girl that appreciates the importance of food.

Sherlock - Favorite GIF

Today's Sherlock topic is favorite gif. I've actually liked and reblogged quite a few Sherlock gifs over on my Tumblr. But, I did manage to narrow it down to my favorite.

My favorite part is Sherlock's face when he says "Greg?!" And of course, it's hilarious that the genius detective didn't know that Lestrade's first name is Greg.

Week in Review

Oops I'm a little late on this one! I could lie and say I've been very busy today, but since I'm technically between jobs right now, I'm on "vacation" and being pretty lazy.  But, I'm here now, so let's look at last week!

Monday

Last week was the last four days of school and I was scheduled to work on Monday. It was a good day, but by the time I got home, I was mentally just done with the school year and ready to be on summer break. I figured I was safe since I've never worked the last few days of the school year and made some plans for the week.

Would you know it, my job scheduler called me that evening. Want to work Wednesday? As in the second to last day of school? What!? Apparently there was a teacher or two who for some reason just figured out that they had personal days that weren't going to roll over. 180 days in the school year and you wait until day 176 to figure that out? I had plans so I turned it down. I didn't feel too bad about that because I know what those kids would've been like that day. No thanks!

I did tell her that I'd be available Tuesday, but she didn't call me.

Wednesday

Due to my husband taking his vacation the wrong week of June and my new job's training schedule, we decided to celebrate our 3 year anniversary a week early with a trip to the zoo. We typically go to Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek, Michigan, but this year we decided to go to the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

We hadn't been there together ever. And I haven't been there for five years. They did some remodeling in that time and added a giraffe feeding which is the main reason we to Binder Park. Plus, it's closer to home, so less driving and since gas in Indiana is up over $4 right now, that was a nice bonus.

I'll post pictures and more details about our day at the zoo later. I haven't edited the pictures yet. (Mostly because I forgot about them.) We'll celebrate our anniversary this week on the actual date with dinner and dessert.

Thursday
The only other highlight of the week was cleaning our porch on Thursday. Which really just meant spraying down the whole thing. It gets pretty gross thanks to the traffic. All that exhaust every day builds up on things. I plan to go back and really scrub the railings later and I have plans to wash all the windows soon.

Saturday/Sunday

Our other excited happened overnight Saturday. We live on the main route to the hospital, so we hear sirens a lot and mostly just ignore them. But when it becomes obvious that the sirens did not just drive by, we get a little curious. We were still up watching TV when we realized that there were fire trucks down the block. Something was on fire, but we couldn't see anything. All along our street people came out and gawked. We never did figure out what caught fire, but we sure did smell it.

Sunday Social - Blogging

Sunday Social

How did you come up with your blog name?

It was inspired by my love of all things argyle and of course, our argyle wedding.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

Finding new blogs to follow, getting sweet comments, and just generally sharing things with others.

What is one thing you have discovered because of blogging and now cant live without?

Does Sunday Social count? I love doing this link-up. Also, Instagram, and Pinterest

Facebook or Twitter? and why?

For the blog? Twitter just because I actually do a lot more on there than on my blog's Facebook page. I need to get better at that!

If one celeb read your blog who would you want it to be?

The Duchess of Cambridge because I'm certain we could easily be best friends.

What is something you want people to know about your blog?

Even though I've been trying this blogging thing for awhile now, I'm still growing and changing how I do things. I'm working on being more consistent and trying to be more interesting, I promise.

Sherlock - Canon

Today's Sherlock topic is favorite canon reference/joke.

Even though Sherlock is a modern adaptation, Steven Moffat & Mark Gatiss do a great job of including a lot of canon. I really love the way they sneak little details in throughout the episodes.

My favorite one is this one...

Vatican cameos!

In the canon, Vatican cameos is a case mentioned in passing by Sherlock Holmes in Hound of the Baskervilles. Doyle never wrote a story about it. I love the way Moffat and Gatiss snuck it in there!

Week in Review

Monday

It was Memorial Day and I had the day off, so of course it was a great day to hit up the flea market with my mom. And other than the constant rain all morning, it was a good idea. We ended up looking like drowned rats despite the umbrella, but I walked away with a new wire rack and a wok spider. I know how to have a good time.

The only thing stopping me from buying this pillow was the price.
Tuesday

After bragging for 3 years that we've never had a power outage, we finally had one. There were some loud noises and suddenly no more power. It was very annoying because 1. We were in the middle of an episode of Arrested Development and 2. I had stocked up on ice cream bars. Luckily, the power came back a couple hours later and we didn't lose anything.

Thursday

Even though there was only a week of school left, I was still working. The highlight of my day was discussing Doctor Who with a 3rd grader. She mistakenly thinks 11 is better than 10, but whatever.

Saturday

I attended my 9 year old nephew's birthday party. There was a bouncy castle. And yes, I did get in it. It had a slide! It was super fun and I think I need one in my backyard all the time.
