Sunday Social - Halloween
What was your favorite Halloween costume as a kid?(pictures??)
I don't have any pictures because they are all at my mom's house, but I had a lot of great costumes growing up. I never had a store bought costume, so the idea that people just buy a costume is weird to me.
I think my favorite costume what when I was a princess. My mom made me a pink dress and I got to wear a sparkly tiara.
If you could go back and dress up as something what would it be?
I think I always had the costume I wanted, so I can't think of anything I wanted to be, but didn't get to do.
Favorite costume as an adult?(pictures)
I've really only done 2 costumes as an adult...
Whenever I dressed up for Halloween at work, I did the poodle skirt, so it's my favorite. It's fun to twirl in and everybody always thinks it's great. Can you believe I've had that skirt since the 6th grade? Thank God for elastic waists because I did not have these hips back then!
My other adult costume was to dress in all black with some fancy dark eye makeup and be a glamorous cat burglar. (I think I was channeling Lady Christina de Souza from the Doctor Who special, Planet of the Dead.)
Favorite Halloween Candy?
I've been eating a lot of Carmel Apple Pops since they put the candy out in stores. But, my favorite chocolate candy to get is Kit Kats.
Favorite Halloween Memory?
Probably the first time I was allowed to go Trick or Treating with my friends and not have an adult with us. Independence!
What's your favorite scary movie?
I don't do scary movies. My favorite Halloween movie is Hocus Pocus.

Life Updates
Just some random life updates for you today.
Our fridge is not cooperating. It's decided that cooling and freezing stuff is not its job anymore and it's only 2 years old. The repairman can't make it out until Monday, so lucky for us, we have a freezer and a mini-fridge in our basement. We caught it in time and were able to get everything moved without losing too much. I'm mourning the loss of my cookies & cream ice cream though.
School is on fall break, so I'm enjoying a 4 day weekend. We took advantage of the nice warm weather yesterday and ran some errands. Now that the weather is back to fall temps, I'm planning on spending some time on the couch watching movies and relaxing.
I made this Old Fashioned Applesauce Spice Cake last week for a girls night with my friends. It was good, but didn't really taste like apples. I'm still on the search for a apple spice cake recipe.
What are your plans for the weekend?

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award
I got my very first blog award last week!
I received the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award from the awesome Trish from Everyday Trish. I consider myself lucky that I happen to know Trish in real life. We've been friends since our sophomore year of college. She's the same Trish that I threw a baby shower for a couple weeks ago and I can't wait to meet her little guy!
1. I've been working since I was 14. As a teenager, I had my first job working in the office of our family business alongside my grandma in the summers.
2. I like to cook and love to bake, but I hate cleaning up afterwards. I'd really just like to walk away from the mess and hope it magically takes care of itself.
3. Even though my husband and I both love argyle, we don't have any argyle decor in our house. Apparently we only love argyle clothes and weddings.
4. I have to sleep with a fan on. It doesn't have to be blowing on me, but it has to be on. It's a habit I developed from sleeping in a dorm room with no air conditioning during college. Without that noise, it's just too quiet.
5. My toenails are always painted. I cannot stand the way bare toenails look.
6. I already have names picked out for both my future children and future pets. Apparently I like to be prepared. Speaking of pets' names, I named my cat, Mimi, after the character in Rent (& also Days of our Lives) after deciding it probably wasn't an appropriate name for a child.
7. I am a huge 007 fan. I've seen all of the movies several times and even once watched them all in order. It's one of the things M and I have in common and before we went on our first date, he had to ask me who the best Bond is (Sean Connery, of course.) Although I do now also love Daniel Craig. I am very excited about Skyfall and even got M to agree to go see it the weekend it opens!
Now, I'm supposed to nominate 7 bloggers for the award, but sadly, I don't really have blogger friends. I'm pretty sure that the bloggers that I read regularly don't have a clue who I am.
So, in an effort to make new blogger friends, I am going to say that if you're reading this, consider yourself nominated!
Leave me a link to your blog in the comments and I'll check it out!

Doctor Who's Day - Favorite Quote
Sorry, I totally started slacking and forgot to keep doing Doctor Who's Day. But it's back this week!
This week's Doctor Who's Day topic is favorite quote. I have lots of favorite quotes from Doctor Who, usually catchphrases, but I immediately thought of this when I read the topic..
I love this quote about updating Twitter because if I was the Doctor's companion, that would so be me. I'd be the one updating Twitter and FourSquare every time we landed somewhere.
I also particularly love this whole scene...
It's the moment I fell in love with Rory.

Sunday Social - Books
What is your favorite childhood book?
My favorite book when I was a kid was Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. I loved the idea that food could just come down from the sky.
I also collected the Boxcar Children books and The Babysitters Club books.
What is your favorite book lately?
The last book that I read and really loved was Let's Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson (aka The Bloggess) It is so hilarious that I was actually laughing so hard I cried several times.
I've also enjoyed the The Hunger Games series and the Parasol Protectorate series in the past year.
What is the book you wish you could live in?
Harry Potter! I want to be a witch and go to Hogwarts!
If you could be any character from a book, who would it be and why?
I think I want to be Stephanie Plum from the Janet Evanovich novels. Because Stephanie is kick-ass and has two sexy men in her life. But, I'm totally a Morelli girl all the way. (And to go with the next question, I actually thought the movie of One for the Money was pretty good even though it was Katherine Heigel, who I don't like.)
What is your favorite book turned movie?
Pride and Prejudice - It's probably the only movie of a book that didn't ruin the story. Plus, I just adore the Kiera Knightly version.
Also, The Princess Bride does a great job of sticking to the book which is a great book as well as one of my favorite movies.
What is your favorite magazine?
I highly enjoy just about any magazine that I can score for free. Right now I'm really enjoying my subscriptions to Everyday Food and All You.

A Baby Shower for a Friend
Last weekend, I had the pleasure of throwing a baby shower for my awesome friend, Tricia. Since this was the first shower I've thrown, I've been pinning ideas for a shower since the day Tricia told me she was pregnant. Thanks to Tricia's amazing mom, we had a great shower and I wanted to share some of the elements with you all today.
Tricia and I discussed ideas and shared pins on Pinterest over the months and eventually came up with a theme and color scheme. We decided to go with a simple theme of a baby clothesline with blue and green colors. Once that was decided, it was easy for me to pick out the invitations.
I confess I ordered the invitations from Tiny Prints because I had a free code thanks to some sponsored blog posts I had done. But these invites were perfect for both our theme and color scheme. I was extremely pleased with the quality of the Tiny Prints invites. They were thick card stock and very professional. And the shipping was very fast. I'd gladly order from Tiny Prints again.
I used our theme to decorate the party space with a clothesline and added some onesies and baby socks that I picked up for the baby. I even managed to get them in the right colors.
Tricia's mom made those pretty tissue paper pom poms in the shower colors and we hung them over the food table. We had lots of great food too! Cheese & crackers, veggies, chicken salad croissants, tortilla roll-ups, chicken drummies, meatballs, white chocolate macadamia cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, and Oreo truffle balls. Everything was great!
Here's a better look at the pom poms
I used some blue Ball jars as vases and found green button mums and white carnations at the local grocery store. I decorated the jars with some green and blue ribbon I picked up that said, "It's a boy" and had clothes on a clothesline. It was perfect!
And of course, the theme also extended to the cake!
Isn't it amazing?! Once again, I went with my trusted wedding cake baker. I just gave him an invitation and he came up with this. I LOVE that guy! Everybody was impressed with the cake and it really was too pretty to cut. But eventually we did cut it and of course, it was delicious!
We did play some great games, but I'll share those with you some other time because I'd like to share the printables I made for the games with you.
Tricia got lots of great gifts and everybody had a great time. I'd say my first time hosting a shower was a success!

Sunday Social - Fall
This week's Sunday Social is a little different. Instead of questions, it's an open ended topic about fall. I already shared my ideas for some fall fashion staples, so I thought I'd share a few of my favorite fall craft & recipe pins.
These cute yarn candy corns look like an easy craft that even I could do.
The grocery store had samples of their apple spice cake the other day and I'm now determined to make my own. I love spice cake in the fall especially with some cream cheese frosting, but this caramel glaze sounds good too!
Aren't these fall leaf cookies cute? Someday, I'm making these!
I may have to make this pumpkin cheesecake for Thanksgiving. It combines two of my favorite desserts, pumpkin pie and cheesecake!

Fill in the Blank Friday - Lasts
Things have been a little light around here this week because I'm throwing a baby shower for my best friend Tricia tomorrow. I am a champion procrastinator, so I've been working on a lot of little things all week. I actually took today off from work (seriously, they called me this morning last minute) to finish everything up. I'm paranoid that I'm going to forget something, but I'm sure the shower will be wonderful. I'll try to share pictures and stuff next week.
So please accept this Fill in the Blank Friday post as an apology for ignoring the blog all week.
The last thing I ate was some Grasshopper cookies last night. I haven't eaten yet today so I'll probably snack while I make dinner later.
The last time I went to the beach was probably 7 years ago when I lived in Florida. The dunes at Lake Michigan aren't far away, but we never go. And we didn't go to a beach on our Florida honeymoon. Oh wait, I went to Daytona Beach 5 years ago when my brother graduated from college, but it was December, so we just looked at the beach and didn't lay out or anything.
The last place I drove was technically home, but yesterday I went to work and then went to Target and the Dollar Store.
The last song I listened to was What is This Feeling from Wicked. I had Pandora on shuffle while I was in the shower.
The last thing I watched on TV was 30 Rock. The last season is finally on Netflix Instant Watch!
The last time I said "I love you" was probably when my husband got out of bed to go to work this morning. I was still mostly asleep, so I don't remember, but I'm sure I did.
